Our Days…

March 4th, 2008

…are filled with running, it seems like.  Even when we don’t plan it.  I planned to run into town for a couple of hours yesterday morning, and ended up spending all afternoon there.  Had just enough time to get back to the school and get my buddy picked up.  So much for getting some stuff done around the house here!!!

Today was SOME better.  I had an appointment at 11A.M., so I had about 3 hours at home in between errands and the appointment and getting back to the school.

I will have to do an entry about schooling here one of these days soon.  Nothing major going on there, other than my buddy WANTING to do some of the pages I had left from the Kindergarten work he was doing when I was home schooling him.  So we’ve done a couple of those the last two nights, in addition to his 5 minutes worth of homework from school.

Other than that, things are okay here.  Had some Spring-like weather a couple of days ago, and then it cooled off again.  But it’s warming back up, SLOWLY.  The grass is starting to pop up green all over the place, and a couple of the trees are really starting to show they are getting leaves.  That’s a GOOD thing, ’cause I am SOOOOO ready for Spring!!!

More later….

Home Schooling

February 22nd, 2008

Written on 2/20/2008

I am…..sad……to report that our home schooling has been put on hold, more or less.  This is thanks in part to a Judge’s “strong, personal opinions” about public schools.  But, this WILL also work in our favor, so we will go along with it for now, and fight that battle down the road a little ways.

I am still working with my buddy here and there here at home when we get the opportunity, so he will stay up where he was before we went off-line, academically.  He is still waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy ahead of where his classmates are, except for the fact that I wasn’t teaching him to do the D’Nealian style handwriting.  But he’s picking that up pretty well!!!  He’s interacting well with the other 7 children in his class, according to his teacher.  Though it has only been a little over 3 weeks since he started public school, the teacher has yet to see any major problems, which I knew she wouldn’t.  He seems to be enjoying it, which is a GOOD thing at this point.  I’ll keep working with him here at home as we have time and feel like it, and we’ll see what happens in the next couple of months.

We’ll keep you posted…

Horse Update And More

December 16th, 2007

Well, our tender loving care for Chief yesterday seems to have done the trick!!  This morning and all day today, he was acting like his normal, ornery self!!!  He’s been eating good and drinking good.  Thank God for victory over sickness in our herds!!

I don’t know how many of you actually scroll down and look at my sidebar, but I’ve added an item, and MAY add a couple of more when I get the chance.  I’m not sure yet.  I added “Keeping My Hands Busy” today…I’m thinking about adding “Keeping My Prayers Busy” which will be a partial prayer list….We might change the “Currently Reading” to “Keeping My Mind Busy”.  What do you think?….Hmmmmmm….so many possibilities!!!

I’m just short of halfway up my next project, which, if you scroll down and look at my new addition, you will find is another set of mittens.  I’ve got the stitches for the thumb on holders, so I can go back and work them later….and I am just getting ready to “repeat the pattern 7 more times”, because I start decreasing for the top.  It’s going pretty fast, actually, now that I’ve got the pattern pretty well figured out!!  SHOULD be able to have the first mitten in this set done either tomorrow or the day after, which means I SHOULD be able to have both mittens in this set done by this next weekend!!!  Then I have one more set to do, which I’m HOPING I can have done by New Year’s or shortly thereafter.  I think I may just end up adding another category for my “projects” too!!!

Do you see how many projects I have lined up to do?  My family has been without home knitted items for about the last 13 years, almost….can you tell that some of us have missed them?  I would LOVE to start making a sweater here and there too!!!  Mom had this great book that had sweater patterns in it that don’t have ANY seams to sew.  Now that’s MY kind of sweater!!!  I’d LOVE to start being able to make one here and there, but I want to make SURE that I’m not going to get one started, and then get bored with doing it or whatever and put it down for months on end.  Things like that take FOREVER to get finished, and that is one bad habit that I’m trying VERY hard to keep under control.  My Mom had a BAD habit of doing that sometimes….I still have craft projects that SHE was working on that weren’t done.  Maybe one of these days, I can at least finish most of them.  One of those projects that is half done or so is one of those one-piece sweaters that she was making for me.  It needs someone to put the sleeves on it.  The only problem with ME doing it is that her and I knitted SOOOOO different at the time that she was doing that sweater that I am afraid it wouldn’t look very good.  Does that make any sense?

Oh well, other than that, not much is going on here today.  It was JUST warm enough to melt…but not much.

We made some more candy today.  We made some the other day when I did an entry about doing something that I haven’t ever done before….well, we made some more today.  It has been about 13 years since we’ve had Divinity candy for Christmas too!!!  I have to say that, from the length of time it took for the first small batch to disappear, I would have to say that it has been missed!!!  I KNOW I’ve missed it!!!  That used to be one of my favorites!!

Other than that, Dad’s got to go to work first thing in the morning….we’ve got school this week…and some shopping to do before the holiday to get the last of the stuff for dinner and such.  Nothing TOO major going on here….

We’re still waiting for page rankings to figure out what they are doing….mine is still fluctuating, and so is my Sister’s…not sure WHAT is going on there.

Okay, all, you’re probably tired of the rambling, so we’ll let you go for tonight.  You all take care, and have a good evening!!!….*hugs* to those that normally get them (you know who you are)

A Slow Day…

December 12th, 2007

…in more ways than one.  Definitely slow, here on the computer.  Haven’t done TOO bad so far this week, though, considering.

Dad went to work this morning.  Had to go to Texas, via Oklahoma City, which will make a pretty good end for his week.

Haven’t seen my Sister since the day before yesterday, because of the ice, but I’ve talked to her at LEAST once a day on the phone.  Have plans to get together tomorrow for awhile.

The ice and rain finally stopped early this morning.  Now we just have to be careful outside because EVERYTHING is slick.

Need to transfer laundry to the dryer pretty soon, and already have the dishwasher going.  Kind of cluttered my kitchen today with dirty dishes…*silly grins*…It was fun, though!!!  Tried something that I had never tried before.  Will HAVE to try it again, probably…SOON!!!

Other than that, not much going on here today.  I am going to TRY to sit down and knit for a little while here pretty soon, as I didn’t get any done while we were doing school.  I don’t know if I’ll succeed or not, but I’m going to try.  If I don’t get any knitting done today, I will DEFINITELY try to get some done tomorrow!!!

Okay, that’s enough babbling for now, me thinks.  Thanks for all the notes, and all the visits!!!…*hugs* to those that normally get them (you know who you are).

Today Is About Over…

December 11th, 2007

…and the weather isn’t ending any better than it started.  We are still getting freezing rain, and it’s starting to cool off a little bit too, which means all that rain and freezing rain that we’ve gotten today is going to freeze.  I think tomorrow is going to be another GREAT stay-at-home day!!!

School went okay today.  It was different for us with Dad being home, but we got it all done anyway.  We are counting down the pages left in the Kindergarten material!!!  Oh, my buddy DID miss one problem on his Math paper this morning…because he wasn’t paying attention.  Gave him an 87% on that page, though, as there wasn’t many on that page to start with.  When I had him go back and do it right, though, after we talked about it, he got 100%!!!  Shouldn’t bring his score down TOO much!!!  That’s only like the second problem in what 3 months or something that he’s missed.  I guess we have to expect him to miss one here and there, don’t we?  And it’s NOT because he didn’t know how to do the problem…he just wasn’t paying attention.  It’s going GREAT, though!!!  And I am SOOOO thankful that we don’t have to be concerned about whether school is in session and if the busses are running and such!!!  Thank God for home schooling!!!

Anyway….more rambling later, or tomorrow, I think….

We Decided On…

December 11th, 2007

….Written at 12:40P.M on December 6th, 2007….

…raisin bread instead of the spice cake.  So we got that going.  It’s now rising for a bit, and then we’ll put it in pans and make the house smell all cinnamony.

Got school done.  It went good again today.  We will DEFINITELY be done with the “Kindergarten” material by Christmas!!!  GOOD timing, don’t you think?  Start a new year, and start a new set of books!!!

Will brave the weather and do animals pretty here shortly.

Another Morning Is…

December 6th, 2007

…here.  Have school in the process.  Have been knitting a little bit here and there, in between being needed on the schoolwork.  Internet is slow this morning, probably because of the weather.  Who knows with the internet?  Dad’s in Oklahoma and says they aren’t getting any precipitation down there yet.  And here we are getting….snow or sleet or rain..or something….Told him he didn’t have to hurry home, ’cause he didn’t have much exciting to come home too today, except bad weather.

More rambling later…

Weather Feels…

December 5th, 2007

…cold tonight.  We took care of the animals a bit early this afternoon, as it had already started to cool off.  And it’s cooled off about 15 or 20 degrees since then.  It was only about 35 or so today for a high anyway.  Supposed to have freezing drizzle and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow, then some more rain on Friday.  What can we say?  It’s December in Kansas.  I’m just glad it’s waited THIS long before the weather started getting nasty!!  One NICE thing about home schooling, though, is that the kids don’t have to go out in the weather to get to school.  There’s no worrying about the bus on slick roads.  There’s no worrying about kids getting stupid on the ice on the playground before classes start.  The weather outside can be bad, and all we have to do is go to the kitchen table and watch the weather do whatever out the window while we do our work!!!  I LOVE home schooling!!!

Another Day Is…

December 5th, 2007

Written this morning…..

…upon us, and it’s fairly quiet here.  Have school in the process.  And I’ve been working on getting an item or two done on the computer here, in between helping with school.

New project came along pretty well yesterday.  Actually go into the “pattern” on it, rather than just the ribbing.  Has the suspense of what I’m making driven you nuts yet?….*L*  Will work on it at least a bit later, though I’m NOT sure how much because my fingers are a little sore this morning.  WANT to do some, but not sure how much.  In a few days, hopefully my fingers will be toughened up so they WON’T hurt…then I can knit more…*grins*

More rambling later….

December 4th, 2007

Not much going on here today.  Have schooling to get finished.  Need to do some laundry, which is already in the process.  Need to figure something out for dinner later.  Other than that, just working on my project maybe, spending the day with my boy, and enjoying the quiet.  I’m not even sure my Sister will be out today, though she might be.  Probably do a bit of cleaning later.  Maybe play with the website a bit, but I’m not sure I’m enthused enough to do that or not today.  Catch up on e-mail a little more, maybe…Sounds like an exciting day, doesn’t it?….*L*

More later….
