Struggling To Find Ourselves

Struggling To Find Ourselves
In More Ways Than One

Tired

December 6th, 2008

Well, it’s been a halfway productive day, though it doesn’t really seem like it.  I guess what we got done is proof enough.  Maybe that explains why I’m tired tonight?  The fact that it WAS a day of getting stuff done and taking care of some personal stuff and some stuff that has been needing taken care of?  I didn’t get as much done as I was hoping to, especially here on the computer, but I WAS able to spend ALOT of time taking care of another important project, so that DEFINITELY makes up for it!!

Not sure what we have planned for tomorrow yet.  Another day of getting stuff done here at home, basically, and spending some time relaxing before we embark on the beginning of another week of school and appointments and such.

You all have a good rest-of-the-weekend, and stay in touch!!!  God Bless!!!

What Fun!!! Or NOT!!!

December 6th, 2008

Ahhhh, the world of toys seems to be overwhelmed with remote controlled everything….from rc controlled dinosaurs to rc helicopters and everything in between!!!  Today’s children seem to want EVERYTHING to have a remote control.  And, honestly, remote controlled things aren’t ALWAYS bad.  We’ve been given some VERY durable ones over the years!!!

Unfortuneately, the mini helicopter that I was just received won’t end up being one of those to be around for years.  It had such GREAT potential and I was REALLY looking forward to my son playing with it, IF it was durable enough and appropriate for his age group and such.

My FIRST problem with it was that it was very hard to control.  The box says for ages 8+, but I, as an adult was having a difficult time controlling it.  Children of ANY age would only be having MORE difficulty than I was.  And the directions on the box were VERY difficult for me to understand.

Along with that problem, I found that, after less than 5 minutes of trying to figure out how to control it, I had already broken a propeller on it.  The propellers are NOT durable enough, in my opinion, for the wear and tear that children are going to put the helicopter through.

The cover on the little cubby hole for the charging cord is NOT one that is easily closed.  As an adult, I was having trouble with getting the cord out of the way in the proper place so that the cover would close properly.  There is really little hope, in MY mind of even an 8-year-old being able to do it successfully, without tearing up the cord.

On the good side of things, I was impressed with how fast it charged and I hooked it up to the remote controller to charge AND that the controller has a light on it to tell you when the helicopter is fully charged!!!  I also liked that the controller was large enough to actually hang on to!!!

All in all, as much as I was looking forward to posting a GOOD entry about this, I am afraid that I was NOT very impressed, overall.  And, if I had the option to go buy one, whether for my own son or for anyone else, I’m afraid that I wouldn’t spend the money.

I Think…

December 3rd, 2008

…that it’s about time to TRY to lay down for awhile.  I really, at THIS point, don’t know if it will do me any good, but I am going to try.  Tomorrow could turn out to be a long day, ESPECIALLY if I don’t rest any better tonight than I did last night.  Thank God that NORMALLY these rough nights are only one in a row or so!!!!

You all take care, and we’ll try to be back in a day or two or three.  God Bless!!!

Travelling - Part #6

December 3rd, 2008

When it became light enough to read the billboards, the first one he saw was advertising making money from on-line auctions by buying items from them at wholesale, and then selling the items on the internet.  Oh, how that sounded like SUCH a promising thing to do, but, like many others, he was skeptical.  Oh, well, like many other people who were seeking to find their own little place in this world, he was going to have to continue searching for his.  So, on he drove into the rising sun, in hopes that he WOULD be able to find where he needed to be in this crazy old world.

Not A Too Busy Day

December 3rd, 2008

It was supposed to be, but it just didn’t turn out to be that way.  By the time I got enthused enough this morning after taking my son to school, the phone started ringing and was basically ringing off the hook there for awhile, and by the time that stopped, it was basically time to go get him.  Of course, rough nights don’t help much to get you enthused about the coming day, either.  So, I read some Bible, and did some stuff here on the computer that I had been thinking about doing for the last couple of days, and read some more Bible…and did some more computer stuff.  Other than that, we haven’t really done much today, though I DID get the laundry and dishes going at SOME point in the middle of the night when I was up, so those two chores got done!!!

More later, maybe….

Travelling - Part #5

December 3rd, 2008

As he drove through the darkness for who knew how many lonely hours, he finally noticed a very slight lightening of the darkness…the signal that dawn was finally approaching.  Traffic started picking up a bit as dawn got closer to making itself spread across the horizon.  Suddenly he remembered that he hadn’t paid his car insurance yet for the month.  He normally paid his auto insurance online, but he would probably end up doing it over the phone this time, since he was on the road, and far from any place with public access to the internet.

We Are Reading…

December 3rd, 2008

…in the middle of the book of Deuteronomy in the Bible.  I haven’t been able to read it as many days, or as MUCH as I would have liked, but we are still moving right along!!!  And we are keeping pace, or are slightly ahead of where we were reading about a year ago, so we feel like we are doing pretty good.  We SHOULD be able to finish Deuteronomy before the week is out!!!

Travelling - Part #4

December 3rd, 2008

As the darkness of the night closed in around him, he looked at his watch in the dark, or rather, where his watch was supposed to be and decided that it was even too dark to see what time it was.  That brought to the front of his mind a commercial he had seen before he had left his life behind and started this travelling to try and find a reason for his existence.  It was a commerical for talking watches. Now wouldn’t that be neat, at least in some instances?

I Think I’m Done…

December 2nd, 2008

…For now anyway.  Time to clean up the kitchen a might and see about laying down for awhile.  It’s been a long, busy day, and I need to get up and do it all over again tomorrow, in addition to some things that I HAVE to do tomorrow that I didn’t have the opportunity to do today.

You all take care and stay in touch, and we’ll try to make it back in here before too many days go by!!!

Travelling - Part #3

December 2nd, 2008

As he made his way through the quiet little town just past dark, he noticed a detour sign pointing him in the other direction and down one of the side streets.  Much to his dismay, he followed the detour sign and soon found himself lost in a residential area where most of the houses had a Victorian flare to them, at least from the outside.  He fondly remembered the Victorian style house that his Grandmother had lived in at one time…many, MANY years ago.  He remembered the sconces that lighted the hallway to her parlor.  And then, for some reason, a billboard that he had seen more than 200 miles ago flashed back into his mind.  It was advertising home theater sconces. How odd that these Victorian style houses should bring to remembrance the billboard advertisement!!!

After he had backtracked and backtracked over his route through the residential area more than one, he found the street that he needed to be on, and then easily found the highway that led out into the darkness of the night, away from the street lights and houses and businesses.
