A Pleasant Surprise!!!

September 27th, 2008

I got a pleasant surprise here a couple of weeks ago, when I had some work done on one of our vehicles by a neighbor.  I found out that he has his own little business.  How did I find out?  Well, it was kind of a fluke, actually.  I had asked him if he knew anyone who would be able to put a certain set of parts on my car, and he said that he probably could.  I told him what the shop was going to charge me, and he kind of laughed and said that he could probably manage to do it quite a bit cheaper.  So he came and got my car on the appointed day and took it to work on.  When I got home that afternoon from some appointments, the car was back in my driveway.  He had left a receipt on the dash, along with a couple of promotional pens with the name of his business and phone number.  I thought it was pretty cool, firstly, because one of his pens said “Smile…God Loves You!”, and secondly, because we have lived out here for about 18 months now and I am JUST now finding out that this guy does more than just tinker with his own equipment!!!  And yes, he is DEFINITELY the one we are going to get ahold of when we need some more work done!!!  Not only did he put the parts on that I had bought because I knew my car NEEDED them, but he went above and beyond the call of duty by putting on a couple of small parts that I DIDN’T know my car needed!!!  THANK YOU, L.P., and God Bless You!!!

Opppssss!!!

I think I just stuck that last personal entry in some categories that it didn’t belong in….*shrugs*…Oh well, I guess I’ll find time one of these days to go back through and recategorize my entries and get them all where they belong.

School for my boy is going pretty well.  Can’t say much about the academic progress, but he is loving it socially, like I knew he would.  Too bad he’s not at school JUST to socialize and that his academics has to fall behind where I have him while he’s there.  We still do quite a bit here at home, just so he will not lose the skills that I’ve already taught him that they aren’t using in the public school yet.  Overall, he’s doing GREAT!!!!

Humidifiers

September 27th, 2008

Now you would think, with me living in Kansas, that we wouldn’t need a humidifier.  But, to tell you the truth, the air tends to get VERY dry inside the house, especially in the Winter.  I’ve been looking into the different types of humidifiers available these days for the last several months, knowing that Winter is coming.  I haven’t really decided which one I like the best, but I DO like the sound of the air o swiss humidifiers.

….Way To Long….

September 27th, 2008

Yep, I would have to say that it’s been way to long since I’ve been in here on a regular basis.  Things have been so busy with appointments and everything that I have been letting the time on the computer slide quite a bit more than I probably should.

Has anyone noticed that the days are going by WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY to fast?  We are almost into October already.  It’s kind of hard to believe, if you ask me.  It seems like only last month that I was helping some people do their tax returns for the year.

Hurt

September 27th, 2008

He knew he must find himself a good South Carolina injury lawyer, or he’d never be able to win his case.  He had been hurt on the job, but his employer was denying it.  He KNEW where he could get the proof, but it was a matter of actually getting TO it and getting it brought out into the open.  A good lawyer would be able to do that.  So he called every lawyer in the yellow pages.  He must have talked to a hundred different secretaries during that week.  And still, he came up short, until…..

Health Insurance

September 17th, 2008

Health insurance is an important thing for EVERYONE to have in this day and age, whether they are self employed, a member of the clergy, or work at a regular job that provides it.  If you’ve checked out different companies and gotten a health insurance quote or two, you KNOW that health insurance is NOT cheap these days.  My question is:  Is it cheaper to pay that flat rate every month even for those numerous months when you don’t have a healthcare need than to be uninsured and save that money every month until you wait for that healthcare need to arise?  Personally, I’m not sure there IS a “right” answer to this question that looms in front of thousands of Americans every day.

Fall Is Early, I Think

September 17th, 2008

Fall-like weather has been here for a week or better now.  We had about a week of rain, and now the sunshine is out and the temperature during the middle of the day is JUST about perfect.  It is DEFINITELY brisk in the mornings, and there has been a HEAVY dew on the grass until mid-morning or so.  We could use weather like this until about December or so, but I doubt that it will stay that long.  Now we just hope the ground will dry out enough for the farmers to get the corn and milo and soybeans out of the field in the next couple of weeks!!!

Sounds Like….

September 17th, 2008

What does Oscar de la Renta sound like to you?  In one way, it kind of sounds like some cheap romance movie with foreign actors and actresses in it.  In another one, it sounds like a cheap restaurant.  Could be a perfume or cologne, I suppose.  Some of the names of those things are like that these days.  Maybe it’s the name of a person?  Can you imagine going to school and having to put that on all of your papers?

Not Much….TOO Much….

September 17th, 2008

In some ways, not much has been going on here.  In other ways, TOO much has been going on.  Don’t ask me how that can be.  It sounds like a contradiction of terms if you ask me, but that’s what our lives have been like lately.

We have succeeded in getting several books read over the last couple of weeks, which is good!!!

What Is…?

September 17th, 2008

Okay, I think I’m COMPLETELY lost on what a futures broker is.  My imagination, of course, is running wild with possibilities, but none of them really make sense.  Do they broker someone else’s future?  Do they broker money for YOUR future?  Maybe they are brokering the habitation of Mars or Pluto?  Hmmmmmmm….Interesting possibilities, don’t you think?  Maybe I should check into it?…..Maybe it’s a way to earn money?
