Room Heaters

August 20th, 2007

When we lived in our previous house, we could DEFINITELY have used some propane heaters.  Or something.  We could have DEFINITELY used SOME type of room heater in the Winter, besides the old milkbarn heaters that we had.  If you need a room heater, check out that website.

Even if you DON’T need a room heater, check them out anyway.  They carry a variety of items, including fireplaces, stoves, wood burning items, and wax log inserts.  They also carry patio heaters and umbrella stands, as well as tools such as chainsaws, tillers, staple and nail guns.  They’ve got generators, security lighting, flood lights, light switches, doorbells, and evaporative coolers.  They also have genuine factory replacement parts and accessories for the heater you already have.  Check them out and see what you can find!!!

On The Road To Recovery!!!

August 20th, 2007

Yep, I believe the household IS on the road to recovery.  Dad was sick the week before last for a couple of days.  He went to work on Sunday or Monday or last week, but was home Monday night.  Tuesday, he went to the doctor and got some antibiotic and some allergy medicine.  He went back to work yesterday!!!  My “buddy” wasn’t feeling super great when he came home last weekend, but he’s doing better now!!  Filling him full of Vitamin C does wonders sometimes!!!  Still has a little bit of a cough, but it’s not sounding NEARLY as congested!!  The girls went home again this weekend because THEY weren’t feeling good, and neither was Vicki.  I got a little bit of congestion, probably from everyone ELSE being sick around me, but I’m doing better now, except for a cough….but again, it’s not NEARLY as congested sounding as it was. SOOOOO glad everyone is feeling better!!!  It’s bad enough when I don’t feel good, but when you add my “buddy”, Dad, the girls and Vicki (who only visit here), it’s just SUCKS!!!

In other news, we had a couple of weeks of actual HEAT, but it has cooled off into the mid-90’s for highs again.  Thank GOD!!!  We DID enjoy having a cooler house during the heat the last couple of weeks, though!!!

Other than that, not much is going on here.  The ex-husband and his new wife have agreed to let me go ahead and home school my “buddy”!!  This means SOOOOOO much to me!!  He’s going to enjoy it, I’m sure (at least for the most part), and he is going to be able to do SOOOOOO much!!!  We are in the process of making contact with other home schooling families in this area to see what they are up too, and see if they would be interested in “play dates”.  If nothing else, it MIGHT be a good way to get used school books cheaper than buying new ones, if anyone else is using the same curriculum.  We KNOW there are SEVERAL families out there that DO home school, but some of them are “hidden” from the normal public eye because nobody asks if they are home schooled or not.  We have come across a couple (at THIS point) that we DIDN’T know were home schooled, until we asked.  It will make some GREAT support if we can get some of these families to do “play dates” and such together!!  Anyway, we are planning on starting our “school year” next week.  I’ve been working on what subjects we will be working on, and how much, and so forth….trying to figure out recesses and such…and trying to figure out whether we are going to do a regular “school year” or a “year round” school calendar.  I still haven’t TOTALLY decided on that one yet, but will soon probably.  We’ll see how the first couple of weeks go, with visitation and such, and go from there.  I am SOOOOO happy that I have the opportunity to home school my “buddy” though!!!

Well, anyway, time to go get some laundry going probably, so we’ll let you go for now.  You all take care, and thanks for the notes!!!  *hugs* to those who normally get them

Beach Cruisers

August 14th, 2007

As an active woman who used to LOVE riding her bike, I’d say you HAVE to check out cruiser bikes.  Whether you live in the city and need a cheap way to beat the gas prices but still get back and forth to work, or whether you live at the beach and love riding along the beach at sunset, they probably have the bike for you.  And at GREAT prices too!!  Right now, all of their beach cruisers are $88!!!  Now is that a GREAT deal or what?  AND, you can put one together in less than 20 minutes, according to their website.

If you have teenage kids, this MIGHT be the place to check for bikes for them too!!!  What better place could you get bikes for all those teenagers than at a place that will have them delivered right to your door, if that’s what you want, and who has GREAT prices happening at the moment?

They’ve got a variety of colors and accessories to go with your new bike, so you can outfit it completely at the same website that you buy it from.

If you’re in the market for a new bike, or are just “window shopping”, why not stop by and check out the cruiser bikes that are on special sale right now!!

Stilts And Bamboo

August 12th, 2007

Did you know that the roots of the stilt palm grow down into the ground, and the push the truck of the tree upwards?  It makes the tree look as if it is walking.  How weird would that look?

Can you guess how much some types of bamboo grow in ONE day?  Some kinds can grow up to THREE feet!!!  Talk about having a fast growing plant!!!

One On One Tutoring

August 11th, 2007

They say that one-on-one is the BEST way to learn.  At Innovative Tutor, they not only have an innovative way to learn, but you can GET that one-on-one attention that your child needs.  They look at your child’s strengths and weaknesses, and create an individualized plan for your child based on that information.  If your child needs help on ANY area of learning, check them out and see if they are an option for you and your family!!

Did You Know….?

August 11th, 2007

….That fungi, like mushrooms and toadstools are NOT actually plants.  They have no roots, stems, or leaves.  Isn’t that an interesting piece of useless information?

In other news, not much going on here today.  Had the laundry and dishes going awhile ago, but now both have stopped.  Need to go switch laundry, I suppose, and see if I can get some curtains washed some time this next week.  I have to make sure everything else is pretty well caught up first, though, and that’s easier said than done some days.

Just not too enthused about the day at the moment….didn’t sleep very good last night….maybe a nap is in order?….*laughs at herself*…like THAT would ever happen, but anyway.

More later…..*hugs* to those that normally get them

Need Batteries?

August 9th, 2007

It seems like everything these days needs batteries. From your wrist watch to your digital camera. From your keyless entry system on your house to your cell phone. And let’s NOT forget the kids’ toys!!! They even have GE Cordless Phone Battery. They have batteries of ALL types….from alkaline to rechargeable. They even have some specialty batteries!!! They have BULK packages on some of their batteries too!!! That would make them a GREAT place to get batteries from for all those toys you’re buying for the grandkids in the next few months before Christmas!!! Check them out and see what they’ve got that would save you money!!! it looks like a GREAT site to me!!!

Trivial Information

August 9th, 2007

Did you know that the raffia palm tree grows the longest leaves. Some of the leaves can be measured up to 20 meters (for those of you that don’t convert to standard measurements very well, that’s 66 FEET!!!) long. That’s taller than some other trees!!! Now THOSE would be some BIG leaves for my son to pack around as he ran around our yard!!!

Individualized Math Tutoring

August 8th, 2007

I never had much trouble with math, unless it was algebra or calculus or trigonometry, or something like that.  Basic math for me was NO problem.  But I realize there are people out there, ESPECIALLY in today’s society, that DO have problems with math.  Having a child starting school this Fall has made me stop and think about what I could teach him, in ALL areas….including Math.  Do I have the skills needed to help him if he has problems on his homework?  I believe I do….but if I don’t, I’m VERY likely to check out Math Tutors.  They will develop an individualized lesson plan for YOUR child, based on your child’s strength’s and weaknesses.  They have innovative ways to help your child be his or her’s best!!  If you and your child need some help with schoolwork, check them out and see what they can do for you today!!!

DEFINITELY Warm!!!

August 8th, 2007

Yep, it’s DEFINITELY warm around here, weather-wise. Yesterday, our high was slightly over 100 degrees….with about 5052% humidity. I think Summer has FINALLY arrived!! GOOD thing it’s August, though!!! We’re due to start cooling off before long!!! I’m not sure I could have stood the normal 6 weeks of 100+ degree weather that we normally get. Of course, being in this new house helps with the heat DRASTICALLY…but still, with it being that hot, it tends to grate on the nerves if it’s very extended.

This house is GREAT!!! It was about 102 outside the day before yesterday, and it was 86 in my house, WITHOUT the air conditioning!! I believe the “experts” say your house is only supposed to be like 15 degrees cooler than the outside temperature, because any cooler than that, and it’s too much shock to your body. It’s kind of neat having a house that stays cooler INSIDE than it is outside!!! In our last house, by noon or so on days like yesterday, it was normally hotter inside than it was outside. NOT so in this house!!! Thank God for this house!!! It’s SOOOOOOO much nicer!!! Miss having my windows open, but I can deal with it for a day or two while we have this heat. We’ve got the air conditioner on, but mainly just to cut SOME of the humidity, as that is what really makes the heat unbearable. And yes, our air conditioners work GOOD!!! How cool is that? A house that stays cool, AND air conditioners that work TOO well some days!!!

Thanks for the notes!!!…*hugs* to those that normally get them
