A Flash Flood Warning?? Here?!?!?!?

June 30th, 2007

Would you believe……

That WE have a Flash Flood Warning?!?!?!?

We have a little Emergency Alert radio in our utility room that goes off when the National Weather service issues a warning.  It went off a while ago and said that we were under a flash flood warning until about noon.

Now, what I’M wondering is…..

HOW can we be under a flash flood warning??

We’ve only had rain for the last THREE days to total ABOUT…..

…………scroll down for our rain total……..

……..are you ready……

…..we’ve only had about 14 INCHES of rain since Wednesday afternoon at 3 P.M!!!

Can you believe we are under a flood warning with ONLY that TINY amount of rain?…..*ROTFLOL*

My ducks and goose have been out in the rain since it started raining, and you’d think it JUST started raining.  They are out there playing in the water like it’s still Wednesday.  Logic says that, at SOME point, they might get tired of being wet and get in the dog house out of the rain.  But, to THIS point, to my knowledge, they have gone in to eat, and that’s it….the silly things!!!….*L*

Well, time to get out of here, and debate building an ark for our Saturday morning project.

You all stay dry and we’ll TRY to float our way back in here later…..*drippy hugs* to our friends and family….*drippy waves* to everyone else

A New Door Opening?

June 29th, 2007

Could this be a new door opening from the Lord?  Thanks to a friend, and my Sister, I have signed up for AND been accepted by PayPerPost.  This is a website that lets you earn money for doing ads on blogs.  They wanted me to post what I loved about them.

I have only been an approved member since yesterday, so I haven’t made any money…YET.  But I have LOTS of plans for the money I WILL make.  As a single, stay-at-home Mom who LOVES ALL the time with her son that she can get, the money that PayPerPost can give us will be a BIG boost to our current income!!  I will be able to not worry so much about EVERY penny.  If I see something in March that I think my son would like for Christmas, I SHOULDN’T have to worry about whether I can afford it or not.  To START though, this money will be used to catch up my bank account, put some into a savings account, take care of some of those miscellaneous expenses that seem to come out of nowhere with NO warning.  By the time Christmas rolls around, though, I SHOULD be able to spend ALOT of this money on MY boy!!!  Boy, are WE going to have fun!!!  Sooooo, needless to say, with me able to earn money EVERY day from this, you can BET this will become a part of our daily lives, at least MOST days!!!

Thank you, PayPerPost!!!  For giving us this opportunity!!!

Not Much Time This Morning…

June 20th, 2007

But I wanted to pop in and say that we are still alive and kicking at the moment anyway.  Lucky and Huffy are both doing great!!!  Lucky’s gaping hole even seems to be closing!!!

Have an unknown entity digging holes in my iris bed now.  MY guess would say it’s a mole, but I’m not sure yet.

Have done some checking.  The store where we got the ducks and geese a month or two ago can no longer get me any.  I’ve done some checking on-line and found a couple of hatcheries that hatch until at least September.  So we will PROBABLY see about getting some more babies to replace the ones we lost sometime in late July.

Well, got ALOT to do today.  Want to try to get the back yard mowed, ’cause it’s a jungle out there.  Also want to try to get some “schooling” done too.  As well as dishes and laundry and such.  Have a good one, folks.

Been A Long Week

June 16th, 2007

It has been a long week.  We called the Sheriff’s Office here in our county Monday morning, and they called the guy from the Department of Wildlife and Parks.  He brought a live trap over for us.  We set it out in the duck pen Monday night, and by 10:30 or quarter ’til 11, the raccoon was in the trap.  He tried to dig his way out of the trap, which is made of a steel mesh, most of the night.  I stayed up for awhile after the raccoon got in the trap to see if there were going to be any more “visitors”.  About 1:30A.M., we had a possum running around out in our backyard.  He THOUGHT about getting in the duck pen once, but after I went out to see where he was and what he was doing, he wandered off, and, to MY knowledge, has not been back since.  And I am happy to report that there has not been anything else in the duck pen since we caught the raccoon.

Tuesday, I called and left a message for the wildlife guy letting him know we had a raccoon for him, and a nice gentleman from a neighboring office stopped by because the guy that had brought the trap out was off that day.  Tuesday night I was up every hour and a half or two hours, JUST to make sure nothing was wandering around outside trying to eat my ducks and my goose.

We brought the two ducks that were injured in the house.  Put the one that was hurt the worst in a cardboard box, and put the other little one that just has scratches on her head in a rabbit-type cage.  I am happy to report that they are both doing okay.  The little one went back outside the day before yesterday.  She is now deemed “Huffy” ’cause she had started “huffying” herself up and acting like a big, bad duck whenever we’d get near the cage.  The other one, the one that was hurt the worst, has now been deemed “Lucky Duck” by my Sister.  He’s got a gaping hole in the side of his face that I believe is now an opening into his nasal passage.  He had blood all over his face.  He has a couple of scratches that actually cut into his bill.  He is holding his neck in an ackward position.  But he has been improving every day.  He was slow in getting started drinking, but he is now trying to bath in his drinking water.  And he has been REALLY slow in getting back to eating, but he DID eat a little corn that I threw into the bathtub with him the night before last, and he was nibbling at the grass outside yesterday afternoon…AND he even ate a LITTLE bit out of his bowl of food last night.  My Sister stopped by the vet there in town, and got some antibiotic for him Tuesday morning (I think it was), and we’ve been giving that to him to try to help fight off the chance of infection.  And we’ve had a problem with the flies wanting to be around him, so yesterday, she stopped and told the vet what was going on, and got some fly ointment to keep the flies away.  Okay, so we are a little odd….trying to save a duck like we are, but we’ve done it before…why not do it again?  It will still be several days, at least, before he goes back outside, but if we can keep the flies away from him, and get him eating more, I think he’s got a REAL good chance of making it!!!

On the down side of this, I called the store where we got the ducks and geese to start with to see if they could special order me some more, and they can’t.  Their hatchery is all done with everything except guineas.  But I WILL be doing some checking on-line and see what I can come up with there.  If nothing else, we will see about getting some more this next Spring.

Well, that’s been my week….standing guard, doctoring a hurt duck, and playing with MY boy!!!

Did I mention we got 6″ of rain Wednesday morning in the span of about 2 and a half hours?  Needless to say, the roads were flooded enough my Sister couldn’t get out here to get her girls, so they stayed ALL day, MUCH to their dismay.

Well, time to put some sunscreen and bug spray on my boy and let him outside for a bit.  Catch you all later.  Thanks for the notes!!!  And I WILL get caught up with everybody again one of these days soon!!!  *hugs* to my friends and family

A Signed Death Warrant….OR SOMETHING!!

June 11th, 2007

Okay, I think our friendly neighborhood raccoon just signed his own death warrant.  He killed one of our geese a couple of nights ago.  Then, after locking the ducks and geese that were left what I THOUGHT was securely in a big doghouse that’s out back, I go out this morning to a massacre.  Two of our ducks, and of course, ONE of them HAD to be one of our favorites, and one of our geese are laying out there dead.  I have NO idea where the other African goose is.  I haven’t found it’s body so far.  One of our other ducks is DEFINITELY injured, so I’m not sure if he will survive or not.  One of our littlest (Mallard) has blood on her face, but I’m not sure if it’s her’s or not.  So now, we have one African goose, one Pekin duck, 2 Mallards one of which has blood, and one Pekin who may or may not make it.  One of the Pekin’s is another of our favorites, but I’m not sure if it’s the one that’s hurt or not.  It SUCKS!!!!  If that is not enough reason for a dead coon, then I don’t know what is.  SOME how….SOME way before this next weekend is over, that coon is going to be ending up dead.  And he’s NOT killing any more of MY animals, if I have to sleep with the poor things!!!

I’m not sure if we will be able to get any more to replace the ones that have been killed or not.  I called the store where we got these, but she was going to have to call the hatchery and see if they had any.  She’s supposed to call me back when she finds out.  Kind of hard to have geese multiply for snake and dog control when there’s only one of them, isn’t it?

Anyway, it’s about time to go do my burial duty, as soon as my Sister gets here after she gets off work, so there’s more than one of us to watch the three kids.

WONDERFUL morning, isn’t it?

Lazy Sunday….Or Draggy Sunday?

June 10th, 2007

Hey, all.  Sorry I haven’t been in to do an update about what’s been going on since we moved.  I just haven’t been enthused when I’ve had the opportunity, and when I HAVE had the opportunity, I haven’t been enthused.  Kinda sucks, huh?

Anyway, it may (or may not) get done again today.  Today has been kind of a lazy Sunday….or draggy Sunday….or something.  Just haven’t felt like doing much of anything today, especially this afternoon.

We DID go across the street to the church this morning for the first time, though.  It’s a Lutheran church, and I had never attended any Lutheran services before.  Interesting, but too much like the Catholics, if you ask me.  Though it WAS nice to meet a few of the people that we always see over there and be able to put names with the faces now!!!  And we talked to a couple of our neighbors for a little bit.  May have gotten some help with our raccoon problem (which is a WHOLE other story for another entry).  The people behind us have suspected they had a raccoon in their barn, but they couldn’t prove it.  They weren’t too excited about the fact that he has been visiting my goose/duck pen at night.  The man who lives behind us has a cousin who lives up about two blocks.  The cousin and his wife don’t like raccoons because they tear stuff up and such.  So the cousin and the guy from behind us were talking about finding a trap and trying to catch him.  That would be good, considering this raccoon killed one of our geese two days before last.  (The geese are ANOTHER story for another entry, too!)

In addition to that, we found out the church across the street IS having Vacation Bible School the first week of July.  I will probably try to get my “buddy” over there for at least most of it.

I also found out from the cousin’s wife why people around here lock their cars when they come to church.  It’s because they don’t want any “surprises”, like vegetables from somebody else’s garden and such….*L*  She said that’s the only reason you lock your house around here too….because, if you don’t, you’ll come home some day to a whole bunch of squash or something on your kitchen table….*L*  Yep, we moved to a REAL exciting town.  We don’t lock our cars at church because we don’t want stuff stolen out of them….we lock them because we don’t want extra stuff “appearing” in them…*L*  Interesting, isn’t it?

Yep, we have definitely moved into an interesting little community!!!  More details on that though, as I get more time and enthusiasm.

I’ll TRY to get enthused enough to post a picture or two of the house one of these days soon too.

Other than that, not much going on around here….or maybe that’s TOO much going on around here…..*shrugs*  I have NO idea.

Anyway, I seem to have lost the enthusiasm to write, so will sign off for now.  Thanks for the support!!!…*hugs* to my friends and family

Just A Quick Entry Tonight, As….

June 9th, 2007

I greet the end of a LONG day with mixed emotions….

Yep, we ARE still on-line.  I just haven’t had much chance to get on-line to actually DO stuff in the last couple of days…thanks to computer….*grits her teeth*…that I am GOING to HAVE to have a “chat” with this week….when there’s no one else around.

Will TRY to do more of an update in the next day or two….Thanks for the support, and patience!!!

We’re Back….

June 5th, 2007

…I think….We got moved, and then we thought we were going to be able to be back on-line within a couple of days.  Well, it didn’t QUITE work that way.  But we ARE back on-line…not doing things very fast and not REAL sure of what our internet connection can do, but we ARE back.

Look for more entries later about our new house and such…

Thanks for the notes!!!

Here’s hoping we can get the entries going again!!!
